iPhone will land on Sprint at end of Year? (Sources Say)

We have been talking to once of our sources for a couple of weeks now about the iPhone coming to Sprint. He says that the iPhone will come to Sprint at the end of June or the year. Now before, we didn’t believe him at all.Number one, because he is a Best Buy employee, number two Best Buy employees don’t have this information. But in our recent email exchange, were changing our minds. We think he is somewhat credible. And we have hope. Remember this is speculation. Nothing is confirmed. Were just reporting what we got.

The new iPhone is set for release very soon (early June? June 7th?) but the announcement that an additional carrier beyond AT&T (Sprint) will be available will come later. Photo evidence I can provide none, big no-no at my job. However, most of the evidence you need is in the everyday news. AT&T signs a wireless deal with Apple, despite the fact that AT&T has a HORRIBLE record of customer service, which Apple is very high on. AT&T announces much higher breakage fees for those who have contracts with AT&T, to dishearten those who want to switch but keep the iPhone. The new iPhone is 4G, Sprint is currently the only network that supports 4G. AT&T announces that data plans will no longer be unlimited for new contracts…dramatically improving profits from customers who don’t know they’ll be able to get a different (and possibly) better deal from another carrier. Maybe it’s just cause I work here and see all the new products before they come out, but I don’t get why this is a big deal. From personal hands-on use, the Droid software is better than any current iPhone software. Also, most Verizon phones seem more durable than an iPhone.  I.M.H.O. – the only thing that Apple has working here is that NOBODY can beat the smoothness and ease of their touch screen. Try out that new Evo from Sprint, it’s pretty frickin sweet.

We hope that the iPhone will come to Sprint at the end of summer, or the end of the  year. But this is too sketchy to confirm.  Also not to get your hopes up for an announcement at WWDC on Monday:

    First of all, nobody knows what the new iPhone’s name will be whether it be iPhone “HD” or “4G” or whatever. The current iPhones are 3G and 3GS. Does anybody know what the 3G stands for in the iPhone moniker? It stands for “3rd Gen” as in third generation iPhone. It does NOT stand for 3G data network connectivity. IF the new iPhone were to be crowned “4G” it would be because it is a 4th Gen iPhone and nothing to do with the network connectivity built into the phone. Your source’s assumption that a 4G named iPhone would necessarily have “4G WiMax” connectivity is ill conceived and simply shows the typical level of (non)knowledge of most Best Buy employees. Saying the iPhone 4G will go to Sprint because their 4G WiMax network share’s an acronym with the iPhone and AT&T have a particularly bad service record is like saying JFK will rise from the dead to lead the free world into peace and prosperity because the current leadership isn’t doing very well. It’s ridiculous.

    Why would you even bother to post some garbage like that. You were probably one of the same blogs that said Verizon would get the iPhone in 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011.

    god that guys stupid. this new iphone 4g is not 4g compatible the 4g means 4th generation please someone tell that stupid kid that. apple has a contract with att untill january 2011. they cant switch any carrier or extend to that matter untill next year. the only this that letter has right is that android phone blow iphones out of the water. i had an iphone (3 of them) for the last 3 years. now i have a nexus one on att and will never go back to apple. i hate steve jobs

    IPhone 4G = 4th Generation and will only work on a 3G technology. Sprint has wimax witch is a 4G technology and faster then 3G. Apple is using 4G as a method of marketing only but it will still be using 3G service from AT&T so don't get confuse by that. Best buy employees are clueless about it.

    Hi there,
    Don't even think I don't update myself with the news quick. It is one of the things no matter how hard you try, you could still be behind.
    Any ways I love Sprint. There is no way for me to switch. However I feel obsolete if I can't use iphone. SO I am glad iphone is coming to our community. Welcome Iphone.

    Apple didn’t say 4G, they said 4. Apple has never said it’s 4G. Besides, 4G itself is purely marketing. It means 4th Generation, which is very vague. The iPhone 4 is in fact Apple’s 4th Generation iPhone (hence, iPhone 4). Sprint’s 4G is significantly slower technology than AT&T and Verizon are using (but it’s also actually currently deployed some places). AT&Ts 3G is significantly faster than both Verizon and Sprint’s 3G. AT&Ts 3G isn’t actually THAT much slower than Sprint’s 3G (maybe 60-70% for data . . . comparable to the difference between their 3G and Sprint’s.) Sprint’s reliability is on a par with AT&Ts over all by some studies. Obviously, your mileage may vary.

    In any event, I’d be completely shocked if Apple has a Sprint iPhone anytime before 2012. I’d be less surprised if there was a verizon one, but even that is unlikely before next Spring. They had an exclusive contract with AT&T. They can buy it out, modify it, etc for some accommodation, but I’d not bank on it.
